Future‑Proof Your Club — Tips for Succession Planning
Hello Grad Club Leaders,
We’ve hit the halfway point of the semester — a good time to start preparing leadership transitions so your club keeps thriving. Succession planning is vital: don’t let your hard work disappear.
⚠️ Risks of not planning: loss of institutional knowledge, stalled initiatives, leadership haphazardly rather than fit, and reduced member confidence and participation.
✅ Benefits of planning: smoother handling of future operations, leadership development through cross‑training, better handoffs and processes year‑to‑year, and a pipeline of capable leaders that keeps your club energized.
Start thinking about the following:
Recruit successors
Reach out to interested members and confirm who will take each role. Each club is required to have 1 President and 1 VP of Finance. You’re welcome to have any other VP roles.
Document operations
Save/update information about your signature events, contacts, and operations in your club's BU Google Drive folder.
Clean up finances
Review and reconcile your club's accounting book in Questrom Common. Prepare information that would be helpful to the incoming VP of Finance to understand what was spent.
More info available in the Club Leader Handbook! Thanks for keeping your club strong! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email qgc@bu.edu or reach out to me directly.
