Subject: Dear 1st-Years: Case Prepping... Everyone Has to Start Somewhere

Dear First-Year MBAs,

We at the Consulting Club want to help you prepare for case interviews.

You should prepare for your case interviews in three ways:

  1. On your own
  2. With peer partners
  3. Coaching sessions with Second-Year Coaches, Questrom alumni, or others in your network.

Individual Learning:

  1. Sign up for Management Consulted here.
  2. Learn about the flow of a case interview by watching the first 8 videos in MC’s Case Interview Bootcamp (first box on this page).
  3. Learn the major case frameworks in lessons 14, 18, 24, and 29.
  4. Once you've identified your weaknesses by practicing with others, use the drills (found on the page linked on #2) for targeted practice.

Peer Practice:

  • Find partners to case with on this google sheet.
  • When giving a partner a case, do the case yourself first.
  • Practice cases as if you were in a live interview.

Second-Year Coaching Sessions:

  • Second-year MBAs are volunteering their time to coach you in casing.
  • Never done a case before? No problem. We are here to meet you wherever you are in your case prep journey.
  • You will find the case prep coaching calendar in our weekly Monday newsletter.
  • Please be respectful of the coaches’ time by reserving only one spot per week and giving 24 hours notice regarding any scheduling changes.

Leverage Case Prep for Networking:

  • Selectively target individuals with whom you have developed strong relationships and who work at the firms to which you plan to apply.
  • Prepping with such people can provide extra insight into the structure of the cases you may receive in an interview and is a great way to demonstrate your interest in the company.
  • Treat the mock case like a dress rehearsal for your potential interview. Only schedule one when you're ready.

Best of luck preparing for interviews, Class of 2024! We're here to help you. Please feel free to reach out to mbacc@bu.edu with questions.
